Optimistic Stripes take on Ulisses

by Ayrton Galea - 9th July 2015

Brimming with confidence post their home match, Birkirkara FC will be seeking to complete the job in the away match and qualify for the second round of the UEFA Europa League, when they take on Ulisses FC.

A goal-less draw in the first leg clash left the Stripes with a tinge of disappointment for not converting their scoring opportunities. However they left the Hibernians Stadium with heads held high, and filled with determination that they can overcome the challenge of the Armenian side.

Matches away from home have always proved to be difficult for Maltese sides, but the resilient Stripes will be doing their utmost to go through to the second round. If they qualify they will in all probabliity face the English side of West Ham United FC, who won 3-0 in their home match against Lusitans FC.

Last week's match marked the debut of Head Coach Giovanni Tedesco and three new foreign players, Edin Murga, Fabrizio Miccoli and Vito Plut. The latter was handed a first-selection start, while Murga and Miccoli came off the bench.

The Birkirkara Coach will have to rely on a last-minute fitness test for the condition of goalkeeper Justin Haber. On the other hand, Gareth Sciberras, Ryan Scicluna and Shola Shodiya are all ruled-out injured, while Edward Herrera is unavailable for this match.

The match will be played at the Republican Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 18:00 (CET). The match officials for this match will be from Belgium. Nicolas Laforge was appointed as the match's referee, helped by his assistants Laurent Conotte and Danny Huens. The match's fourth official will be Laurent Colemonts.

Come on the Stripes!
