Time for the away leg

by Ayrton Galea - 21st July 2010

On Wednesday, Birkirkara will be involved once again in 2nd leg of the second round of the Champions League when our team once again will be meeting the Champions of Slovakia, MSK Zilina.

Last Tuesday, it was an early goal by Nikola Vukanac that after forty seven seconds put the 'Stripes' ahead and thanks to total determination they managed to win this historical game. This win means a lot both for the club and even for the Maltese teams as Birkirkara are the first team who managed to win three consecutive times in a European Competition and the first team who had ever beat a foreign team in the 2nd round of the Uefa Champions League.

This away match will be very difficult for the 'Stripes' as MSK Zilina need to go from the first minute on the attack to find a goal to equalize, Rowen and his team mates are warned about this and in fact his comments about the game were, " With the 1-0 lead that we have, this will helps in no small way as this lead as we are more motivate for this match that we can go through the third round especially when you see that a draw or a minimum loss with scoring away goal is enough to go to the next round"

"This means that most of the pressure is effecting the squad of MSK Zilina and not us but we are 100% concentrating for this game as we are looking for it as the most important and historic game of our club"

Once again Birkirkara could not go to this match with the best formation as Trevor Cilia is ruled out injured, Andrew Decesare due to suspension and the latest recruit Emiliano Lattes could play due to UEFA Rules.

The match will be played in the Zilina Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 19:00

Come on Stripes!
