Birkirkara to face the new champions today

This evening 'The Stripes' will be involved in a very important and difficult challenge in the fight for the second place, when they will take on the new champions Valletta.

In the last match Birkirkara, gave the impression that will collect the three points easily as they created many good opportunities which could have easily led into goals. However Hamrun equalised and Birkirkara failed to score the winning goal to lose two precious points.

On the other hand, Valletta's morale is sky high since in their last match they beat Marsaxlokk by a solitary goal from Roderick Briffa, and they were declared the new champions.

In these last ten seasons Birkirkara and Valletta met no less than 39 times in Premier League games. Valletta managed to win 17 games, and Birkirkara managed to beat Valletta 14 times. The eight other games ended in a draw. In these 39 matches, Birkirkara have a better goal difference as they scored 61 while Valletta managed to score 57. From Season 2000-2001 till 2009-2010 the biggest win for Birkirkara was on the 22nd February 2003 when 'The Stripes' trounced the Citizens with a score of 7-2. For Valletta, the biggest win against Birkirkara in this decade was with a score of 4-1.

This season Birkirkara and Valletta met three times in the Premier League. The first round match ended in a 2-2 draw. In the second and the third round Valletta managed to pick the three points. First they beat Birkirkara with a score of 3-1 and then 1-0. Many believe that the results were too tough on 'The Stripes' as they had good performances on the day.

Mr. Paul Zammit will have to face this important match without several players as Paul Fenech is suspended after being sent off in the last match, while Shaun Bajada and Michael Fraser are still ruled out injured. Angus Buhagiar is still very doubtful due to illness. Patrick Borg and Nikola Vukanac are doubtful as well but they should be make it on time

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it will commence at 19:30. Transport from Valley will leave at 18:30.
