Birkirkara and Floriana in decisive match for 2nd place

by Ayrton Galea - 5th May 2011

Tomorrow evening, Birkirkara will be involved in their last Premier League match of this season. They will face Floriana in a decisive match for the second place.

Birkirkara are unbeaten in this round. After they opened by a comfortable win of 3-0, they registered two consecutive draws against Hamrun Spartans and Valletta respectively. In their last match, 'The Stripes' emerged as winners with a score of 2-0 thanks to two early goals.

Floriana are also unbeaten in this round. After they were held in a 1-1 draw in the first match, they registered two consecutive wins over Tarxien Rainbows and Hamrun Spartans. Last Sunday, they registered another draw against Valletta when they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

This season these two teams met three times in the Premier League with two of them being won by Floriana. In the last match between Birkirkara and Floriana, the latter beat 'The Stripes' with a score of 5-1.

Over the past ten seasons these two teams met 35 times in the Premier. 'The Stripes' beat Floriana no less than 20 times. On the other hand 'The Greens' beat Birkirkara 9 times. Six times the game ended in a draw. In total Birkirkara scored 52 goals and suffered 32 goals which mean 20 goals in favour of Birkirkara.

Without any doubt the best season for Birkirkara against Floriana was the 2004-2005 season when 'The Stripes' beat Floriana four times in a row, scoring 11 and conceding just one goal. On the other hand, Floriana's best season against Birkirkara is this season. This was the only season from the last ten, that Floriana managed to beat Birkirkara twice in the Premier League.

For this match Mr. Paul Zammit will not have available for selection Joseph Zerafa and Andrew Decesare who are both are suspended after they collected their fourth yellow card against Marsaxlokk. Paul Fenech and Angus Buhagiar will be returning for Birkirkara. Shaun Bajada is still doubtful for tomorrow's match due to a lingering injury.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and it commences at 20:00. Transport from Valley Road is available and it will leave at 19:00.

Come on the Stripes!
