Birkirkara face Floriana in first match of the season

by Ayrton Galea - 19th June 2011

On Monday evening Birkirkara will be involved in the first competition of the season, the Euro Challenge Cup. Their debut will be in the second match of the competition and they will face the losers of Friday's match, Floriana.

Birkirkara started training on 1 June under the helm of Mr. Patrick Curmi. Since they are involved so early in the pre-season, there was no need or time for a pre-season. This will make physical preparation for the Premier League more difficut.

Last Friday, Floriana were beaten by Champions Valletta with a score of 2-1, so this means that this will be the second match for them. For Birkirkara, as said earlier, it will be the first match in this competition.

Last season results against Floriana left much to be desired. Floriana managed to beat Birkirkara four times out of five, as they registered 2-0, 5-1, 3-0, and 2-1 wins, with the latter beng in the U*BET FA Trophy Semi Final, to eliminate Birkirkara from the cup.

Head Coach, Mr. Patrick Curmi told us, "I am so enthusiastic for tomorrow to start my experience with Birkirkara. We have now been three weeks together and preparing for this season. Tomorrow is our first competitive game. While our main scope for the games in this completion is purely to evaluate the squad and also to see new faces, those already registered and players who are on trial with us, it is also important to respect this completion and give our utmost energy to do well. The present squad is still not complete and we will have a better picture after this week where we truly need to address to be more competitive. I am sure that the Hibs Ground tomorrow will be packed with our fantastic supporters."

We will expect to see the debut of Leighton Grech, and the return of Jorge Mora after a year`s absence. Also returning to the squad after loan spells are Alan Tabone, Andrew Scicluna, Jacopo Camilli, Omar Borg and Thomas Paris.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to start at 19:30.Tickets for this game can be bought at the door, and are at €6 while children under 14 years enter for free. The "KartAnzjan” card discount and all the season tickets of last season are not valid for this competition.

Transport for this match will leave from Valley Road, Birkirkara at 18:30.

Come on the Stripes!
