November - A month to forget

by Ayrton Galea - 1st December 2011

Last Sunday Birkirkara played their last match of November and in the following round up we are going through the worst month of our Club so far in this season.

In this month, Birkirkara were involved in four Premier League matches and they won one, drew once and were defeated twice.

Matches

After they were coming from two consecutives wins which ended October on a very positive note, Birkirkara opened the month with what many considered as surprising loss when on the 6th November, they were defeated with a score of 3-2 by Tarxien Rainbows.

Birkirkara managed to bounce back with a hard fought win against Balzan Youths five days later, on 11 November. 'The Stripes' came back from a goal down and emerged as winners with a 2-1 score thanks to a spectacular goal by Moises Avila Perez thanks from an over-head kick.

The second loss of the month was registered on 21 November against Qormi. During a disappointing performance and after Qormi had a player sent of, Birkirkara suffered two goals with no reply.

In less than seven days, on the 27 November, Birkirkara disappointed again when they were held in a 0-0 draw by Mosta although one must mention that 'The Stripes' hit the posts twice.

Team Statistics

In this month Birkirkara scored only three goals while conceding six goals which means 'The Stripes' conceded twice as much they scored.

Birkirkara registered the only clean sheet in the last match of the month when they were held in a goal-less draw by Mosta.

In this month there were three dismissals during matches in which Birkirkara were involved. One for the opponents and two for our team. The first send off was in the match against Qormi when the opponents had a player sent off for taking off his shirt on the pitch. The two dismissals for Birkirkara were in the last match against Mosta, when in the final few minutes both Moises Avila Perez and Shaun Bajada were sent off.

In these four matches played during this month, one penalty was ordered against Birkirkara which however, was neutralised by Jorge Mora.

Players Statistics

In this month, Mr. Paul Zammit made use of nineteen different players. Rowen Muscat scored his first goal ever with our club in the 3-2 defeat suffered against Tarxien Rainbows in the beginning of this month.

In the first match of the month, Jorge Mora extended his impressive record of blocked penalty kicks as he saved the second penalty for this season and the record that he never conceded a penalty with our Club since he was registered two seasons ago still holds.

In this month, Alexandar Canovic, Ryan Camenzuli, Ryan Scicluna and Shola Shodiya all made it for the first time with the first eleven.

It was a relieve to see Shaun Bajada back in the squad after a long term injury as everyone knows the potential of this player. However this was marred as he was sent off a few minutes later.

For this season, Moises Avila Perez is still the top scorer for the Club, and the third scorer overall with eight goals.

Protest lodged by Birkirkara F.C.

On the 8 November, Birkirkara FC lodged a protest with the MFA over the match against Tarxien FC. The protest was based on a technical fault when in the 66th minute there were two balls on the pitch.

Yesterday, on the 30 November, it was announced that the Protests Board of the MFA has not upheld Birkirkara FC's protest.
