Birkirkara to face Balzan in BOV Premier League

by Ayrton Galea - 25th August 2012

Birkirkara will face Balzan tomorrow evening in their second match of the BOV Premier League for Season 2012-2013.

Birkirkara opened their Premier League commitments on a brilliant note as they defeated newly promoted Melita with a 4-0 score thanks to a brace by Joselito Dos Reis and goals by Shola Shodiya and Jhonnattann Benites.

Balzan launched their Premier League campaign with a well-deserved draw against Hamrun Spartans with a 2-2 result. The Youths even had the chance to earn the three points as they missed a penalty four minutes from the first half.

Last season, Birkirkara and Balzan met four times and all encounters were won by ‘The Stripes'. The only hard fought match was in the first round. Birkirkara were a goal down, but they managed to turn the match around with difficulty and won the match with a 2-1 score. In the second, third and fourth round respectively, Birkirkara registered easy wins with scores of 4-0, 5-0 and 3-0 respectively.

Balzan did not make any major changes in their squad, but this might work out in their favour, as the players are used to each other. Birkirkara, on the other hand, have worked hard to strengthen the squad, especially in the attacking department.

Both teams will not be in full strength, as defenders Nikola Vukanac for Birkirkara and Renato Conceicao for Balzan, are suspended.

The match will be played at the National Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 20:30. Transport from Valley Road leaves at 19:30.

Come on The Stripes!
