Birkirkara to face Mosta in a delicate match

by Ayrton Galea - 10th November 2012

Birkirkara have another excellent opportunity to narrow the gap with leaders Valletta to just two points, but in order to do this they have to beat Mosta in a delicate match.

Last week it was a goal by Abubaker Bello Osagie four minutes in the added time that denied ‘The Stripes' from moving closer to Valletta, as Birkirkara were held in a 1-1 draw by Qormi. Birkirkara were coming from a 1-0 victory over Hibernians in their previous outing.

On the other hand, Mosta found their feet in the Premier League and their big number of new players seem to have settled well following a shaky start. After they were beaten two nil by Tarxien Rainbows, they bounced back well by defeating Rabat Ajax with a 2-0 score and then Melita with a comfortable 5-0 score.

Birkirkara will be a depleted side as Edward Herrera and Gareth Sciberras are suspended while Joselito Dos Reis is still recovering from an injury. Without any doubt, with these key players missing it will be a bigger challenge for ‘The Stripes'. However, on a positive note, Zach Muscat will be back after a one match suspension.

Birkirkara are currently second with Sliema Wanderers with twenty points, five under Valletta and just one point ahead of Mosta. However, Birkirkara have a match in hand. A win for Birkirkara would move the to just two points away from Valletta and put The Citizens under pressure. On the other hand, a loss for ‘The Stripes' could even see them dropping in the fourth position as Mosta would move to the second place and can possibly even fall below Hibernians who will play their match later this afternoon.

Birkirkara and Mosta already met in the AME Cup with Birkirkara emerging as winners thanks to a brace by Joselito Dos Reis.

The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and Birkirkara are still searching for the first win in this Stadium. So far ‘The Stripes' played three matches at this venue and they lost two and drew once. The match will kick off at 16:15 and transport from Valley Road will leave at 15:15.

Come on the Stripes!
