First Phase roundup

Yesterday evening Birkirkara completed their first phase commitments by beating Hamrun Spartans with a 3-0 score, and we are presenting a roundup of the first two rounds.

Having set the winning of the league as the top target for the season, one could say that Birkirkara are on the right track, as despite suffering some disappointments, they managed to bounce back strongly to stay in the title race.

Matches' Statistics

In these first phase commitments, the Stripes played 22 matches, out of which they won twelve, drew seven and lost only three matches. This means that Birkirkara won 55% out of their matches.

Birkirkara managed to net 47 goals, to be the second best forward line in the Premier League, joined with Hibernians, and they scored just two less than leaders Valletta. On the other side, Birkirkara are also the second best defence as they conceded 19 goals, once again, two goals more than Valletta. This means that the Stripes scored 2.13 goals while they conceded 0.86 goals per match.

The earliest goal scored was by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza after just three minutes in the 4-1 first round victory over Tarxien Rainbows which was played on the 30 September 2012. The latest goal was also scored by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza in the 7-1 victory against Mosta which was played on the 19 January. Mifsud Triganza netted the seventh and last goal on the 88th minute.

Birkirkara failed to score in only three matches this season, all of them in the second round as they failed to score against Hibernians, Valletta and Sliema Wanderers respectively. On the other hand, so far Birkirkara managed to have no less than 10 clean sheets.

Birkirkara's biggest win was registered on the 19 January 2013 when the Stripes trounced Mosta with a trashing 7-1 score. On the other hand, Birkirkara's worst defeats were with a 3-1 score against Hamrun Spartans and Sliema Wanderers.

Players Statistics

Spaniard defender Alejandro Mendoza is the only player who managed to feature in all Premier League games this season. He started 21 matches while he was included once as a substitute, and he is therefore the Birkirkara player with most Premier League appearances this season. On the other hand, Joselito Dos Reis and Yosimar Hernandez are the most used substitutes with five times each.

Zach Muscat collected the most yellow cards for Birkirkara as he collected seven. On the other hand, defender Nikola Vukanac, Yosimar Hernandez and Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza, and the three goalkeepers so far did not collect a single yellow card.

Jhonnattann Da Concecao is the top scorer for Birkirkara netting ten goals, followed by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza with eight. Jhonnattann is the player who was voted most often as the man of the match as he was awarded this title seven times.
