Birkirkara FC suffered their first defeat in the BOV Premier League, as three goals without reply gave arch-rivals Valletta FC a fine 3-0 victory.

Following a goal-less first half, where both teams created their scoring chances, the Citizens surged ahead ten minutes inside the second as their latest signing Bojan Kaljevic headed the ball home past goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski off a cross from the right by Miguel Alba.

The Citizens ensured the victory with two late goals. On the eighty-second minute when Mario Fontanella dashed forward inside the box and placed the ball at the back of the net while two minutes later substitute Bogdan Gavrila hit home thanks to a well-placed diagonal shot.
