Birkirkara to face Melita in a tricky match

by Ayrton Galea - 16th November 2012

Birkirkara could begin the second round on a high note as they can move to the top of table alone one point ahead of Valletta, although the latter with a game in hand, when 'The Stripes' face Melita on Saturday afternoon.

Despite being with a depleted squad with four important players missing namely Edward Herrera, Gareth Sciberras, Joselito Dos Reis and Shola Shodiya, Birkirkara performed a brilliant performance to reduce the gap with Valletta to two points and go alone in the second place by defeating Mosta with a solitary goal.

On the other hand, Melita who signed Mr. Francisco ‘Patxi' Salinas Fernandez as their new Head Coach after Mr. Martin Gregory stepped down from his position after their match against Mosta, are coming from a 2-2 draw against Floriana with the latter notching the equalising goal late in the match.

With morale sky high for ‘The Stripes' this encounter can be a tricky one for Mr. Zammit's side. Without any doubt, Melita can prove to be a very difficult opponent, although occupying the lower part of the standings as they play entertaining football and are able to win points against any opponent.

Birkirkara are second with 23 points, two points under leaders Valletta and this could be a perfect opportunity for ‘The Stripes' to move alone on top of the table, with Valletta having a game in hand. On the other hand, Melita are second from bottom with five points and they will be desperate to keep the pace with Floriana who are with ten points.

Hard working midfielder Gareth Sciberras will be back for ‘The Stripes' following serving a one match suspension but Edward Herrera will still be suspended for this game. Joselito Dos Reis is still unavailable for Birkirkara.

Birkirkara had defeated the amateurs in the first round with a comfortable 4-0 score thanks to a brace by Joselito Dos Reis and goals from Shola Shodiya and Jhonnattann Benites.

The match will be played at the Victor Tedesco Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 14:00. Transport from Valley Raod will leave at 13:00.

Come on the Stripes!
