January Roundup

by Ayrton Galea - 1st February 2012

One of the most disappointing month so far this season, January has come to an end and we are going to present you a roundup of what happened in this month.

Birkirkara lost three out of the four matches played, including the elimination from the FA Trophy from an early fourth round stage.

Matches

As already said, Birkirkara played four matches in this month and managed to win only one. In third match of this month, Birkirkara were eliminated from the FA Trophy.

Birkirkara opened the first month of the year with a dramatic crucial defeat when on the 8 January despite playing for more than 45 minutes with one player more, 'The Stripes' not only failed to to score but they conceded a late crucial goal which gave the three points to Sliema Wanderers.

In the only game won this month, Birkirkara defeated Marsaxlokk with a 1-0 score thanks to Moises Avila Perez, which was played on the 13 January. Although Birkirkara won the three points, an element of disappointment was still there due to the large amount of goal scoring chances that were wasted.

The biggest disappointment of the month was yet to come when in the third match of the month, on the 22 January, Birkirkara were eliminated by Hamrun Spartans from the fourth round of the U*BET FA Trophy when they were defeated with a 3-2 score.

After the elimination from the U*BET FA Trophy, Birkirkara resumed the Premier League with another disappointing result. Their dominance in possession failed to be converted into goals and they were defeated by Floriana with a solitary goal in a match which was played on the 28 January.

Team Statistics

Birkirkara played four matches in which they won once and they lost three. They managed to score three goals while they conceded five goals. All the goals scored were scored in the first half. Three goals out of the five conceded were conceded in the second half. The only clean sheet of the month was registered in the second match against Marsaxlokk.

Players Statistics

Joseph Zerafa was the only player that was sent off during this month in the U*BET FA Trophy match against Hamrun where 'The Stripes' were eliminated with a 3-2 score.

Moises Avila Perez added another goal to his tally when he scored the winning goal against Marsaxlokk to score the ninth goal out of sixteen matches played in the Premier League. The goal meant that the Spanish striker is joint best-scorer in these two seasons. He scored as much as Birkirkara's top scorer of the previous season, Emiliano Lattes who managed to score nine goals in the Premier League of last season.
