Transfer Market roundup

Yesterday evening the Summer Transfer Market was officially closed, so we are going to give up a detailed round up of what happened throughout the last months.

In

Antonio Gomes - the Brazilian strong defender signed a one contract with Birkirkara on the 20 June, and he made his debut against Valletta in the Euro Cup match on the 23 June.

David Silva - After releasing Ibrahim Babatunde and Rodolfo Kumbrevicius, and Michael Galea decided to stop playing in the Premier League, Birkirkara's replacement was David Silva who signed a one year contract on June 20, and like Antonio Gomes he made his debut on the 23 June.

Gareth Sciberras - Many consider his, the best acquisition in this transfer market. The International midfielder signed with 'The Stripes' on Monday, 27 June, and he made his debut with Birkirkara three days later in the first leg of the 1st qualifying round in the 1-0 defeat against KF Vllaznia.

Jorge Mora - The strong Spanish goalkeeper was chosen as the number 1 goalkeeper for Birkirkara once again. He signed a one year deal on Saturday 18 June and he made his debut in the first match of the season in the Euro Cup match against Floriana which was played on the 20 June.

Leighton Grech - The first acquisition for the season was the Under 21 International player Leighton Grech who agreed terms and signed a five year contract on Friday, 17 June. His debut arrived on June 20, in the first match of the season in the Euro Cup match against Floriana.

Marcis Savinovs - Latvian Central Defender joined Birkirkara FC on June 20 where he signed a one year contract. His debut arrived in the same day in Birkirkara's first match in the Euro Cup when on the 78th minute he replaced Matt Clarke who was on trial with our Club.

Moises Avila Perez - The Spanish forward was offered a one year contract, with an option to extend for another year, which he accepted on the 2 August after scoring six goals in the last two matches of the Mosta Tournament where he had an impressive performances. His official debut was in the first league match against Qormi which was played on the 19 August where Moises opened the score with a fine rising shot.

Rodrigo Pereira - Former First Vienna central defender impressed the Birkirkara FC technical staff from the very first match and it was no wonder that Birkirkara decided to keep Rodrigo and in fact he signed a one year contract with an option of another year on the 28 July. Like Moises, his official debut was in the first league against Qormi.

Shola Haruna Shodeyia - The latest Birkirkara's recruit was the Nigerian striker Shola Haruna who was brought in Malta by Mqabba. The speed demon signed a two year contract. He is still waiting to make his debut as the Club is still waiting for his International Transfer Certificate.

Terence Vella - After spending last season on loan, Terence Vella made a permanent move to Birkirkara and the Under 21 International striker signed a five year contract.

Andreas Galea - After ending his Under 19 experience, Andreas was now with the First Team and with the aim and hope to play regular football and gain experience as much as possible he joined St. Patricks for one year on a loan basis.

Andrei Agius - The International defender's loan spell expired at June 30 where in the same day he played his last match with our club in the 1-0 defeat against KF Vllaznia.

Andrew Scicluna - The promising strong central defender once again decided to join Mqabba on another one year loan after spending the 2010-11 season with them.

Antonio Gomes - Although leaving a good impression in the first match, Antonio was released by our Club with the aim to find a better option after he was injured in his knee and would be ruled out from playing football for several weeks.

David Silva - Like Antonio, David was released by our Club. Although the Brazilian striker managed to find the net in the away leg against Vllaznia, the Birkirkara FC Technical Team decided that David is not the striker that the Club was looking for.

Emiliano Lattes - Despite being the best player in the previous season, Emiliano was released by our club as he failed to fit in this year club's plans.

Ibrahim Babatunde - After failing to impress in the five months spell with our Club, he was not offered a new contract and therefore he released by Birkirkara FC.

After returning from a loan spell with an Italian Club, it was evident that Jacopo's skills had improved. Still, it was felt that he was not the best fit for the currents needs of this year's team and he was released by our Club.

Karl Pulo - The promising youngster opted for a new challenge in his career as he was transferred to Tarxien Rainbows with the main aim being to play more regular football.

Marcis Savinovs - Marcis failed to impress with our Club as he failed to meet the Club's expectations and therefore he was released with the aim of finding a more suitable defender for the next season.

Michael Fraser - Michael was not offered a new contract after his first season with Birkirkara and he was therefore.

Nikola Vukanac - After his second season was less positive than the first one the Club decided not to renew his contract when it expired at the end of the season.

Omar Borg - Omar decided to join Hamrun on loan for the second consecutive season after he had a wonderful spell in his first season with 'The Spartans'.

Patrick Borg - Despite having one of the best seasons with our Club, Patrick Borg was loaned out to Marsaxlokk for the 2011-2012 season.

Rodolfo Kumbrevicius - Like all the foreigners of the previous season, Rodolfo was not offered a new contract for the next season.

Thomas Paris - After in January he joined Floriana on loan, in the Summer Transfer market Thomas was transferred out to Floriana to continue his career with 'The Greens.

Contract Renewals

Joseph Zerafa - After his contract expired in the end of the previous season, Joseph chose Birkirkara once again where he renewal his contract for another three years.

Paul Fenech - New captain Paul Fenech signed another four year deal with Birkirkara although he was still under contract. This means that the hard working International midfielder will remain a Birkirkara player until the end of the 2014-2015 season.

Retirements

Former Birkirkara FC's Captain and Club's all time top scorer, Michael Galea decided to stop playing for Birkirkara and in the Premier League. Michael made it clear that he wanted to end his career where it was born, that is with Melita FC. In recognition of the player's long term service to our Club, and to make the loan possible, it was finally decided to loan him for free for a year.
