Birkirkara take on Melita in first match of the league

by Ayrton Galea - 19th August 2012

An optimistic Birkirkara FC will open its 2012-2013 BOV Premier League campaign tomorrow evening, when they take on the newly promoted side of Melita FC.

Birkirkara, under the helm of Head Coach Mr. Paul Zammit made several squad changes this summer. Birkirkara released foreign players Moises Avila Perez, Jorge Santos Silva and Rodrigo Pereira which were replaced by the Brazilian duo forward Joselito Dos Reis and Jhonnattann Benites and the Spaniard Alejandro Mendoza.

Birkirkara was not very active in the transfer of local players, as the only two acquisitions so far were Reuben Gauci and Zach Muscat. Patrick Borg signed a new contract with Birkirkara FC after he was loaned out to Marsaxlokk last season. Ryan Scicluna signed his first professional contract with the Club as well. On the other hand, Terence Vella, Leighton Grech, Alan Tabone and Omar Borg were loaned out to Hamrun Spartans, Qormi, Zebbug and Marsaxlokk respectively. Shaun Bajada moved to Valletta as his contract was expired. Angus Buhagiar has still not concluded an agreement with any club.

Melita did not make any drastic changes as their only new signings are two foreigners, Rudi Alinho and Jose Luis Negrin.

After several positive performance in the pre-season preparations, Birkirkara are eager for the Premier League. Nikola Vukanac is unavailable for Birkirkara as he is suspended for two matches for being sent off in the Tivoli Cup against Hamrun Spartans earlier this month.

The match will be played at the Hibernians Stadium and it is scheduled to kick off at 20:30. Transport for the match will leave from Valley Road at 19:30.

Come on the Stripes!
